In the mid-1970s, Brandenburg Properties envisioned the creation of a new, upscale community for San Jose in the valley between the ridgeline of the first row of eastern foothills and the Hamilton Range beyond. Secluded by terrain from the bustle of Silicon Valley below, this new community would provide executive, golf-course housing and a full-range of high-quality community services that would persuade managers of San Jose’s high-technology industry and other professionals to live as well as work in the city.
Over more than a dozen years, Brandenburg Properties assembled 1,500 acres of land and succeeded in annexing it to the City of San Jose with approved plans for a championship 18-hole golf course, 1,500 homes, the Silver Creek Valley Country Club, schools, city services and retail sales and services. The company then sold the entitled property to Shea Homes for implementation. Homes in Silver Creek Valley sell today for $1.5 to $2 million, and the assessed value of the Brandenburg vision is more than $2 billion, with a “B”.
